The Natural World

A few photos from my walk a few years ago, along with some observations about the importance of our connection with the natural world.

In some mysterious way woods have never seemed to me to be static things. In physical terms, I move through them; yet in metaphysical ways, they seem to move through me.
~John Fowles~

And this our life, exempt from the public haunt, finds tongues in trees,
books in the running brooks, sermons in stone, and good in everything.

Buttercup

Until one has loved an animal, a part of the soul remains unawakened. Butters, you are a gift from God's infinite wisdom given to all who love animals. Your little face is just adorable!

First Try at an Eagle

"Everything you touch,
touch as if it were sacred.
That will bring your mind to a standstill.
The space between you and any object
will then open up into a sea of radiance."

Free or Caged?

There are some things we possess,
and others that possess us.
The gift of Lenten practice -- whether taking on or giving up --
has always been that it helps us to understand
how the ways in which we spend our time, our money, hearts, and energy
can become a cage instead of setting us free.
