Crystal Mill

The Crystal Mill is one of the most beautiful, picturesque and reputed to be the
most photographed area in the state of Colorado. It is located above the Crystal
river not far from the rustic homes once lived in by miners that worked the mill.
The mill operated from 1879 until 1921 when it officially closed.

Lohr McIntosh Barns

In 1881 George McIntosh needed a larger barn to keep up with his growing ranch. Most likely with the help of neighbors, he built these unusual barns. The wood plank floor of the central level is where Mac threshed wheat to sell to local flour mills in  Longmont, Colorado and surrounding areas.

By Land or Water

Two people viewing the same subject. One on land and I'm not in the
kayak. This eagle is always in the same place every Sunday at the same time perched on top of a power pole seventy feet high. The lady in the kayak has two expensive hobbies photography and kayaking. I think I will stay on dry land!

More Moose

Early Morning Gifts

Dawn at Brainard Lake means an awfully early morning. Leaving the house at 5:00 am to be at the lake shortly after six is an adventure in routine. The temperature at 10,200ft. was around 38 degrees, it wasn't long before cool was gone and the warm sunshine enveloped the beautiful surroundings. The dawn light was magnificent, painting the lake and the east-facing granite slabs of Mt. Audubon with golden light. The moose, birds, and wildflowers are outstanding. The cows, calves, and bulls standing chest high in vegetation eating mostly willow all of them working their way though the feast. It wasn't long before the group crossed the lake which was amazing to watch the power and swiftness of these magnificent animals.
