Rime of the Ancient Mariner

The Albatross a sign of sin, suffering, forgiveness, and redemption. Read The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and find the many metaphorical meanings this great poem points out. Samuel Taylor Coleridge shows what the old mariner came to realize. When I first saw this Albatross The Rime of the Ancient Mariner started to play in my head as well as the many references to Christianity that comes forth in the poem.

Nature's Gift

Geese sit on the frozen lake bills tucked beneath ruffled feathers. Cold air and snow flakes swirl to make a beautiful day that only nature can provide.

A Beautiful Sanctuary

The Kilauea lighthouse recently completed a restoration project and was returned to its original state which originated from 1913. The fresnel above has over four hundred pieces of glass that no longer is used to guide ships. When in service the light would project 90 miles in length.

Grand Canyon of the Pacific

Waimea canyon is located on the south end of Kauai and was formed by volcanic activity a well as the Waimea River that also helped carve this beautiful canyon. Waimea means reddish water.

Rainbow Ecualyptus

The most beautiful tree bark in the world. The Rainbow Eucalyptus
grows only in tropical zones 12 and 13. This tree can exceed two-hundred feet
in height. The most beautiful tree I've encountered.

A Boat for the Journey

The path ahead may be long, the goal obscure, and still I trust the journey will be blessed.

Colorado Fall

Nobody stumbles over mountains. It is the small pebbles that causes one to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and one will find you have crossed the mountain.

Pause

     Practice the Pause

When in doubt pause.
When angry pause.
When tired pause.
When stressed pause.
And when you pause pray.

Attention

Everything in creation is divine and is worthy of our attention.
The real voyage of discovery consists in not seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.

Reaching Out

Sometimes the mountain is hidden from me in veils of clouds, sometimes I am hidden from the mountain in veils of inattention, apathy, fatigue. When I forget or refuse to go down to the shore or a few yards up the road on a clear day, reaching out and filling the unknown hiddeness with all that is blessed and the sacred instills gratitude, appreciation, and a oneness with all of creation.

American Flag Barn

During the Persian Gulf War, farmers who owned this barn painted a flag on the 1925-era structure. The rundown barn became an often photographed image. This past year, it was a backdrop in and advertising campaign for the Country Music Awards show. The area around this barn is beautiful with the Rocky Mountains to the west and amber waves of grain to the east.
And if God doesn't live here in Colorado I'll bet He spends most of His time here.

Redstone Colorado

The town of Redstone originally existed because of the historic coke ovens. Founded at the turn of the century, Redstone was the vision and venture of one man: John Cleveland Osgood. Redstone was a company town, constructed solely to house the men who worked the ovens and their families. After decades of not being used, these historic coke ovens have deteriorated due to weather, erosion, vandalism, and plant growth. To prevent further degradation, Pitkin county has been restoring and stabilizing these historic landmarks.

Sands of Time

Dune Beauty--What a Gift

Life has its textures--beautiful sand dunes, and its high mountain ranges; the easy times can be boring the mountainous ones....well, that's another story. Just remember where you are now is where you are now. Enjoy it even if the future looms ahead of you. There is only the present moment where life begins and ends, everything else is a gift.

A Special Place

"To awaken means to awaken out of the self-talk in the head because the self-talk is a form of hypnosis - self hypnosis." ~ Eckhart Tolle~
