Paint Mines

      55 million years ago during the Tertiary Age these colorful formations existed.   The formations 
acquired the name Paint Mines because the Native American tribes that inhabited the area hundreds of years ago used the colored clay to make paints for decorating pottery. In addition to the colorful mineral deposits, there are fantastical sandstone hoodoos, and other geological formations
